Mountain Goats are unbelievable

Are you brave enough to climb a wall like that?

Here is a picture from another angle:

Video of the mountain goats in action:

Below is another example of an impossible climb by a mountain goat.

The question is – how does the goat get up there and how do they get down! If anyone has a video, please let us know in the comments!

Wow, that is insane. Is that even real? Looks fake.

Acting Chick October 13, 2010 at 5:16 pm

That looks incredible. I wouldn’t want to try that!

Shit October 15, 2010 at 11:58 am

Yeah, don’t try it unless you’re a mountain goat

Patrick October 15, 2010 at 2:38 pm

That is amazing!

This must be extreme sports for mountain goats ..LOL

I would think that a few of those goats make it back quick and hard!!

I’ve seen something like this in Montana many years ago. Pretty incredible stuff. I still don’t know h0w they access those areas, but I assure this photograph is plausible, if straight up real.

Dam goats…

MagEditor October 27, 2010 at 2:14 am

The animals on the dame face are not mountain goats. They are Asian ibex.

El Weirdo October 27, 2010 at 9:22 pm

If it’s in The Sun it must be fake.

These aren’t faked, mountain animals like goats and ibex have a specially adapted hooves that grip even tiny holds in rock faces.

derp derp it’s all about keeping your center of gravity up against the slope.

You’re all retarded.

KIF November 22, 2010 at 11:25 am

So those first species are on a DAM and the Goat is on a Mountain? First off I don’t know how high up that Goat is. Second I don’t know how it got up there. It can’t jump from cliff holes like a human. So I think we need to all hit dislike on Stumble.

two moronic dipshits above me November 27, 2010 at 8:47 pm

2 of them.

AllerGYmucuspus November 27, 2010 at 10:07 pm

I second that…

Once when I was about 12 myself and a friend were looking over a cliff-edge and saw a goat just below us that looked stuck, with a 40-foot drop below it… These days I realise it probably wasn’t stuck, but in our efforts to try and help pull it back up it decided that rather than face us it was a better idea to jump and leapt off disappearing into the bracken below. Just as we were thinking we’d killed the thing it jumped up and ran away. So I don’t know how they normally get down but it seems they can survive huge falls with little damage!

Sarcasmvendetta November 30, 2010 at 11:45 pm

WOW!Is that real? How can they balance their body with that size?It must be a tragic death if one of them falls down.Ouch.

Corey December 3, 2010 at 5:18 pm

Yes it’s real, here’s another video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XafAdkZIYKA

Goats can climb almost anything- when you own goats special fencing must be purchased because they can climb normal fencing, including chicken wire and chain link fencing! They will even climb straight up slick surfaces like a diagonal metal support pole (like for a fence). There is nothing goats like better than being up high- the kids love to play “king of the hill”, and even adults often prefer to eat on top of their houses rather than inside.

SuperDuper December 20, 2010 at 3:09 pm

It is very real… but just boggles the mind!

christopher January 4, 2011 at 6:34 pm

It looks like a fake photo. What are they looking for? Is there grass growing out of the dam?

Roman January 6, 2011 at 5:48 pm

They are actually not eating grass but licking salt!

bduke215 January 25, 2011 at 7:03 pm

dude i used to live in montana and i now live in central idaho and you would not believe some of the places you see mountain goats walking in the canyons here. we go to hells canyon all the time and you will see goats just chillin on a totally vertical wall. its ridiculous, i agree. but 100 percent real

HemiTemi January 28, 2011 at 7:08 pm

Man those goats are indeed amazing!

Kevin January 28, 2011 at 11:41 pm

Rangers I’ve listened to in Glacier National Park say the grizzlies get much of their sustinence from dead goats that have died in avalanches and falls. So maybe these goats are not quite as wondrous as the article suggests.

The picture of the mountain goat on the rock face ….

This has been floating around the Internet for an amazingly long period of time. However, I vaguely remember the original comment by the photographer. The photographer said that he watched the mountain goat for over 10 hours and eventually went home leaving the mountain goat where he found it.

Phmew February 26, 2011 at 1:40 pm

They are real. When mountain goats put their feet together it is said to be able to stand on a dime.
